What it involves
Most Territory Managers work for private companies, in industries such as FMCG where the role involves visiting clients within a certain territory. Territory Managers are responsible for opening new and maintaining existing accounts by servicing clients in a variety of ways. They must make customers aware of available merchandise, take orders, and assist and provide customers and prospects with their needs. Territory Managers must also interact with all departments as needed to provide exceptional sales/service.
Typical responsibilities includes: organising client visits; demonstrating/presenting products; establishing new business opportunities; maintaining accurate records; attending trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings; reviewing sales performance; negotiating contracts.
The promotional prospects are excellent – these roles offer quick progression into senior positions or into related employment areas such as marketing or management.
What's required
Most degree subjects are acceptable for entry into the profession, although relevant qualifications are preferred for some positions.
Potential employees must have maturity, confidence, perseverance, patience, excellent interpersonal skills and should be commercially aware.
