A job in media sales essentially involves the selling of advertising space or airtime to media agencies or companies direct. Roles in the media sales can vary from press, magazines, TV, online, Radio and Digital. What it involves
Graduates are often targeted for entry level jobs in media sales and they are rewarded with competitive basic salaries, good commission/bonus schemes, the potential to travel.
The role of a media sales person primarily involves developing and building long term relationships with potential advertisers through telephone calls and face to face meetings. In addition to this a media sales executive would be expected to generate new business.
This type of work involves selling and managing advertising space and liaising with clients. Often a media sales role will require data entry and general office duties in addition to supporting senior members of staff. Junior media sales is often an office based position although there can be opportunities develop and move into an autonomous role with experience. You will be required to have outstanding customer service and communication skills to be successful in a media sales position.
The role can progress into an account management position, client services or sales coordinator role. These positions are often quite competitive and will require at least 18 months to 2 years in a junior before being considered for a promotion.
As media roles are in high demand, the salary generally starts at around 35,000 with a small bracket for commissions.
