What it involves
Marketing assistants are employed by a variety of public and private sector organisations. They work closely with employees in production, sales, and distribution.
They are responsible for: compiling and distributing financial and statistical information such as budget spreadsheets; analysing questionnaires; writing reports, company brochures and similar documents; organising and hosting presentations and customer visits; assisting with promotional activities, and visiting customers/external agencies.
The multi-tasking aspects of this position cannot be over-emphasized. The work can be stressful and tiring, particularly during new product launches, when some long hours may be required.
What's required
Marketing vacancies attract strong competition at all levels. Employers prefer graduates with a good honours degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject such as mathematics, statistics, or economics.
Candidates must be confident, commercially aware, adaptable and creative, with good teamworking abilities. Extensive software skills are required, as well as Internet research abilities and strong communication skills.
