What it involves
Solution Sales people are employed by all types of companies, particularly technology companies and apply a consultative approach to match their solutions to customer needs, securing profitable sales. Typically, the sales order value is large, and the sales process will be long.
This type of work includes: organising client visits; demonstrating/presenting products; establishing new business opportunities; effectively understanding a client’s requirements, offering tailor made solutions, maintaining effective relationships with key decision makers, writing tenders/ proposals; attending conferences and meetings; negotiating contracts.
The promotional prospects are excellent – these roles offer quick progression into senior positions or into related employment areas such as marketing or management.
What's required
Most degree subjects are acceptable for entry into the profession.
Potential employees must have maturity, confidence, perseverance, patience, excellent interpersonal skills and should be commercially aware. IT, numerical and foreign language abilities can be useful.
