"Helping find graduates what ProGrad has given to me gives me a great sense of satisfaction."

The year was 2006 and I had just graduated from the University of New South Wales completing a Bachelor of Design.  Straight away I finished working at my part time job, said farewell to my dog and departed for NSW’s ski fields to spend 4 months working at Thredbo, boarding everyday and making a stack of new friends.  I returned to Sydney facing the big question what next?

While working part time I started to search the web.  I looked at every type of career which my broad degree allowed me to do including; graphic design, fashion design, print design, interior design, research roles, events, everything!  After interviews which lacked my interest with Charlie Brown and several recruiters I finally stumbled across ProGrad.  Within days I attended my assessment day, speech prepared, unaware of what an exciting opportunity’s I would soon be presented with.

The day flew by and after being announced successful I was called for an opportunity literally the next day.  ProGrad interviewed me on the Monday for a position as their Creative Marketing Executive.  The role sounded amazing and exactly what I was looking for!  After a weekend worth of preparing my proposal and a 2 hour long interview I had found my first graduate job.

Being the Creative Marketing Executive for ProGrad involved a wide range of activities.
I was responsible for the creative design and development of all of ProGrad’s online media and including the online content of ProGrad’s website.  This involved not only creating the website but updating it to ensure its content was accurate and relevant to the market, designing and developing company templates and researching relevant news articles and case studies to help inform the graduate market what Australian organisations could provide for them as well as what types of opportunities were out there.  I was also was responsible for any of ProGrad’s promotional material including newsletters/ezines, events and competitions.

Whilst this was a very rewarding position at the end of my first year at ProGrad I started to have an itch to try sales.  When I first started I would never of believed I would have an interest in sales, quoting “I would never cold call!” however over the year I watched in awe my fellow ProGrad colleagues begin to carve their careers out in Business Development and what I found myself thinking was I could do that!

Voted the loudest in the office and not a person to ever shy away from a conversation I took the bold step 4 months ago to begin my career as a Business Development Executive for ProGrad.  Nervous however still feeling at home I begun my induction with fellow colleagues Simon and Mitch and haven’t looked back since.  In the past 4 months I have learnt more skills, been pushed harder and achieved a level of successful I would never of been able to had a continued in Creative Marketing.  I meet daily with CEO’s, Managing Directors and General Manager’s something I would never have believed I could do and convince them how graduates like myself, can add value to their organisation.

Whilst I still love being creative and am able to continue using my design training I firmly believe I have made the right change my future career.  For me creative marketing did not suit my levels of ambition, my need to communicate or the salary and progression rate I desired.  I now have a clear path and every day I feel I am making a great leap forward.

Helping find graduates what ProGrad has given to me gives me a great sense of satisfaction.  If you are looking for a great opportunity, excellent training and to be home grown and mentored into an organisation I suggest to you now, look no further than ProGrad!
